Problem:    Asan detects a memory error when EXITFREE is defined. (Dominique
            Pelle)
Solution:   In getvcol() check for ml_get_buf() returning an empty string.
            Also skip adjusting the scroll position.  Set "exiting" in
            mch_exit() for all systems.
